My father flew mostly with Major John Disbro. In a picture my Dad brought back the plane is Our Gall II. Dad was a mechanic but not ground crew. I believe his general posistion was waste gunner. However his very last mission was not with his regular crew. He took a sick tailgunners place (wasn't supposed to be tailgunner, too tall) and that plane crashed with all aboard lost except my father. Lucky he was in tail because it broke off in the top of a cyprus tree. It was several days before he was rescued, badly injured. Dad's memory is getting dim so any help from surviving crewmates would be great. Dad has 7 Bronze Stars, how do I find out why he got them? How can I get copies of Sq. records? Anybody out there remember Bill Down from Des Moines, Ia.? Info on Major Disbro would also be appreciated. I would love to be able to identify that last crashed plane. By the way Dad is alive and well, he and Mom live in Lake Havesu City, Az. Thanks in advance for any help I receive.
