RAF = Royal Air Force (British air force)

RCAF = Royal Canadian Air Force

My father wanted to fly so badly he ran away from his home in new york when he was just 17, crossed the border to canada, lied about his age and joined the RCAF. He had flown dozens of missions as a very young man by the time the U.S. joined the war. The US formed the Army Air Corps and my father transferred over to them (the Army Air Corps later became the U.S. Air Force). The Army Air Corps flyers had no combat experience, so flyers like my Dad trained them--he met my mother in Montana on one of those training assignments. Good luck with your paper!
