A big "Thank you!" to writer and military historian, Walter Gaylor who, more than anyone, has worked to record the history and preserve the memory of this great group. After organizing the first 22nd Bomb Group reunion at the behest of Freddie Nichols, Walt was elected president of the 22nd Bomb Group Association and served in that capacity for a full half a century before stepping down following the 50th annual reunion. Helped by his wife Marjory, he edited and published the 22nd NEWSLETTER. From a start-up "kitty" of $40.00 and a roster of 13, the 22nd BG Association reached a peak of over 1,200 members.

On graduating from the Pennsylvania University, Walt was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the US Army Reserves. After earning his earned his Master at Harvard, he became the headmaster at an Indianapolis, MD Prep School. Called to active duty in June 1941, he was assigned duty as the assistant adjutant in the 22nd BG and remained in the Group until separation as a Major at war's end. In 1944, he was the historian for thee 22nd BG history, THE MARAUDER. More recently Walter co-authored the definitive, yet to be published and eagerly awaited, REVENGE OF THE RED RAIDERS.
